Just like many of us, I open Claude, ChatGPT or else to draft and rewrite notes and emails, to analyze a conversation or data to make sense of it, to code... Its fascinating how efficient those tools can be, what they allow us to do nowadays. It is an unfair advantage to those who master it. I also realize that while I train those tools on my content to crack my tone of voice, my context, or my way of doing things, it’s only possible because I have this immense history.
Then I asked myself… What happens to people who dont have a history, like my kids for instance, those who will only train their AI through the vast amount of voice notes they share with those tools and the context of their interactions. It’s somewhat frightening to imagine that future generations will be shaped by the tools and not the other way around anymore, that our efforts are more and more delegated to our assistants.
Not only AI is the first technological innovation which progress go way faster than than the world can adopt it sometimes and humanity can comprehend, it atrophies our intellectual muscles shaped by the effort, the resilience, the hard work of mastering something that requires learning through studies and/or the pitfalls of experience and iterations.
Even if it’s not true for manual work just yet (and that will come faster than we think…), who are we becoming in the age of artificial intelligence, what kind of dystopian truths that seemed absurd, dangerous or crazy few years ago will become our new reality?
We’re still living in a world where the lack of discernment and high touch of AI agents require skilled individuals to crack our way through or correctly use those tools to become more productive, but even this glitch in the matrix will be fixed sometimes soon.
And then what ?
Honestly I don’t know. I want to believe that everything will get better everywhere ultimately, but I have real concerns about how many lives will be shattered in the meantimes. We’re spectators and often collateral damages of the hamster wheel of world domination where the biggest companies and countries are competing against each other because they don’t know any other way.
We can’t change this trajectory, hold fire and slow down a little, but great things can still happen.
First, each one of us can use innovation to build better systems to support humanity. Medecine, energy, construction, agriculture… Artificial Intelligence applied to the infrastructure of our lives should highly improve inequality of living in an ideal world.
Second, while the interface is disappearing and the tools are working in the background to solve problems and execute things for us, we can reflect on improving social interactions, collaboration and claim back the art of getting together instead of being locked on our screens.
Third, we can feed our soul with faith and all the underlying principles of love and forgiveness that go with it, towards ourselves and others, in search for meaning.
I just wanted to take a moment this morning to write a short reflection without any AI tools as I am going to start preparing pancakes like a bad ass Optimus humanoid :)
Earlier this year…
