Jean, what you’re saying is truly relevant and accurate — I experience it regularly as I go back and forth.

When I write about the deep differences between the two countries, I often talk about chaos, and you mention it as well. There are very specific and very different forms of chaos in France and in the US. You have to understand them deeply, and also question your own ability to absorb that chaos, which can be extreme.

By the way, I’m not sure if you know that “chaos” is originally a concept from Greek mythology referring to the confused beginning of all things before light — before order and harmony.

Very interesting and refreshing point of view. Thank you!

A follow-up piece in “Choose France” mode, aimed mainly at Americans and explaining why — and on what terms — they might choose France to start a business, would be really interesting, I’m sure!
